James Warring is an American boxer, kickboxer and mixed martial artist. He is a rare fighter who won the world titles both of boxing and kickboxing. James Warring is well known and loved worldwide. Next to being a great martial artist, he was a professional foot player for the Raiders, movie actor, among other talents.
About 20 years ago, my Martial Arts Instructor’s daughter was diagnosed with a rare cancer. I will never forget the kindness of James Warring. He visited the hospital room and donated his time, some t-shirts, and gave her some encouraging words.

That to me, is a true champion. 20 years later, he inquired about her again, and asked how she was doing. Nicole Navarro, a cancer survivor, though still having some disabilities is another champion. Nicole came with her uncle, Albert Medina, and James once again gave her his signature t-shirts and more words of encouragement and inspiration. I was touched by his humility and kindness, characteristics that some champions take for granted. I teach my students that greatness is not a destination, but a journey.

James Warring displays all the characteristics of one of the greatest martial artist I ever met, also as a great friend. In this article, I would like to take the opportunity to thank James Warring for all the great things he has done for our community and for the sport that I love, martial arts.
